This lighthouse is located in the old Ramey Airforce Base – a military base that was established by the Spanish authorities in 1889. When the Panama Canal became operational in 1914, the lighthouse became one of the most important landmarks used for guiding ships navigating from Europe to Panama. The story of El Parterre dates back to 1851 when the landscaped plaza was built. Not so much is said about it, but inside it is a natural spring believed to have been the main source of water for the Spanish soldiers.
